Chicago Public Neighborhood Library_2015

Chicago, Illinois. University of Illinois BSAS.

The proposed Library Design is located near Old Town in Chicago, Illinois. The project was dubbed Bildungsroman as a reference to the literary term of the personal growth of the protagonist in a literary work. This idea rooted the concept of the building massing and its thoughts on the future of Library typology as we progress the program as a society from the physical book and resource storage to centers for facilitating personal growth. As an inevitable foray into radial plan design in architecture school, the plan shifts a radial center point as the floors ascend, shifting focus from the city to the Lake. This radial plan becomes complex as it intersects with the building's 5 shear wall masses. The project was a part of a Junior design studio at the University of Illinois.
