Barcelona Boutique Hotel_2015

Barcelona, Catalunya, Spain. University of Illinois BSAS. ETSAV.

The proposed Hotel Design is located in the Eixample district of Barcelona, Spain, and works within the suggested guidelines of the established Cerda plan made famous in Barcelona. The building seeks to create a contrast of extroverted and introverted spaces along with a massing that seeks to balance the contrast of opaque and transparent, The facade is visually permeable creating a plane along the streetscape, while leaving exterior views and visual connection to the public park tucked behind the hotel as a public amenity. This strategy works to facilitate and extenuate the utility of the public amenities while also creating a private and secluded oasis for hotel guests. This strategy sets the foreground of the streetscape, and the public park as the background, leaving the proposed hotel as the interstitial 'middleground.' This project was produced as a part of the Study Abroad Program at University of Illinois at Barcelona and affiliated with the ETSAV school of Architecture.
